UNDETECTABLE=UNTRANSMITTABLE
Effective treatment is Prevention!
Lisa Ryan, our Executive Director, is dedicated to eliminating the spread of HIV, AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases with in communities of color. Due to our most recent events we are adding COVID-19 to our list in efforts to combat the rising number of cases in hard to reach and under served Black communities. CAL-PEP is in the community and works closely with community members to increase wellness and knowledge to reduce their risks. We recently purchased mobile showers for community members without access to basics resources can have access to hygiene and triage services. We work with individuals most at risk for HIV to include sex workers, substance users, homeless individuals, at-risk youth, ex-offenders and seniors.
CAL-PEP provides street outreach, education, mobile and Rapid HIV & Viral Hepatitis testing, showers, mental health and wellness services, substance abuse counseling and prevention services, case management, peer support, navigation and retention for HIV positive individuals, medical van transportation, and youth health services. Our work is supported by community based research and evaluation.
Many of our clients are impacted by gentrification in Oakland. We work in the community where high risk individuals congregate using our mobile testing clinics. We visit street venues, neighborhoods, tent cities, abandoned buildings, homeless shelters, transitional housing locations, and parks. We conduct grill-outs, educational presentations, participate in health fairs and hold community forums.
